About the Role

We are looking for a Manager, Field Systems to lead our Field Systems team, ensuring the performance, reliability, high availability, and expansion of our global network of weather instrumentation at airports worldwide. This role involves overseeing station maintenance, managing service providers, supporting technical troubleshooting, and optimizing system performance. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and team building skills, a hands-on technical background, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, remote-first environment.

Team & Operations Management
  • Lead and mentor the Field Systems team, ensuring smooth operations and professional growth.

  • Define priorities and oversee projects related to station maintenance and improvements, new installations, and service provider management.

  • Develop and optimize processes for efficient field operations.

  • Manage relationships with airport partners, ensuring compliance with contracts and agreements.

Service Provider & Vendor Management
  • Maintain contracts and strong working relationships with local service providers.

  • Oversee sourcing, onboarding, and training of new service providers as needed.

  • Ensure high-quality service and quick response times for station maintenance and repairs.

Station Maintenance & Performance
  • Oversee scheduling, project management, and execution of all station maintenance and upgrade work.

  • Ensure a high level of station & sensor uptime while minimizing maintenance costs.

  • Track maintenance history, manage hardware inventory, and maintain accurate records using ticketing systems and knowledge bases.

  • Monitor and analyze station data; compare metrics, identify issues, determine maintenance and upgrade requirements.

  • Define criteria for equipment replacement and implement long-term reliability improvements.

New Installations & Expansion
  • Manage site selection processes with airports, ensuring optimal sensor placement.

  • Coordinate logistics for new installations, including equipment procurement and subcontracting of manufacturing and build kits.

  • Oversee station installations and ensure smooth startup operations and commissioning.

  • Develop and maintain siting and installation documentation.

  • Design, Build, Test custom mechanical components, modifications, panel layouts

Technical Support & System Reliability
  • Gain in-depth expertise in station hardware installation, maintenance, and functionality.

  • Provide high-level troubleshooting support for service providers and internal teams, with passion, ownership and perseverance to identify and resolve root causes.

  • Develop clear instructions and training materials to streamline field maintenance and technical operations.

  • Maintain and improve technical knowledge bases and documentation to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

  • Act as a key escalation point for system outages and performance issues.

Research & Development
  • Oversee improvements to station design, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Drive R&D initiatives for testing new equipment and optimizing existing infrastructure.

  • Maintain and improve QA standards for all station hardware.

Qualifications & Experience

Proven experience managing field operations, technical teams, and maintenance programs in a regulated industry.

  • Strong leadership, team building, and organizational skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.

  • Attention to detail, strong Operational mindset.

  • Technical expertise in instrumentation, electro-mechanical systems, AC/DC power, mechanical and electrical design, wireless communication and remote data collection.

  • Familiarity with schematics, mechanical drawings, tolerancing, manufacturing processes, material properties, DFx.

  • Hands-on experience with system troubleshooting, maintenance best practices, hardware lifecycle management, prototype and system build and test.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and an independent, resourceful approach to challenges.

  • Experience managing contractors and external service providers.

  • Ability to analyze system performance data and drive data-driven decisions.

  • Proficiency with ticketing systems (Jira, ServiceNow, etc.), knowledge bases (Confluence, internal wikis), and remote troubleshooting tools.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (mechanical engineering, or similar) preferred.

  • Experience in aviation, weather, or environmental monitoring industries is an asset.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.
