About the Role

We are seeking a Software Development Team Lead to join our Technology team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will lead the projects of and mentor a small team of software developers and testers while also contributing directly to our front end, back end, and mobile app codebases. You’ll work closely with the VP of Technology and Head of Product to plan and scope development work, ensure high-quality code standards, and establish best practices across the development and testing team.

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with a passion for team leadership, process improvement, and building scalable, reliable, high-quality systems. You thrive in a remote-first, collaborative environment and are excited to shape the future of software at SureWx.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software developers and testers, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance engineering culture.

  • Collaborate with the VP of Technology and Head of Product to plan, prioritize, and deliver work.

  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code while contributing to major product features and system architecture.

  • Define and implement development workflows and processes that support scalability, quality, documentation, and team productivity.

  • Conduct code reviews, mentor team members, and champion best practices in software design, testing, and deployment.

  • Own the technical quality of projects, ensuring that deliverables meet requirements, timelines, and quality standards.

  • Work with stakeholders across Field Systems, Software Systems, and Customer Operations to align development efforts with broader business goals.

  • Identify technical risks early and implement proactive mitigation strategies.

  • Drive continuous improvement across our tools, tech stack, and development lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with modern front and back end programming languages and frameworks, in a microservices environment.

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership or team lead role.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, databases, and system design.

  • Experience establishing development processes, coding standards, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience with Agile methodologies, planning, and team-based development workflows.

  • Ability to lead by example—writing production-level code while also guiding and mentoring a team.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across remote teams and with non-technical stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.

  • Experience in aviation, weather technology, or related industries is a plus but not required.

  • Preference for candidates who can work around Eastern Time Zone hours to facilitate collaboration with colleagues spanning from Mountain Time to Central European Time.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience with system observability tools (e.g., logging, monitoring, alerting).

  • Passion for mentoring and fostering growth in junior developers.

  • Experience in these frameworks: .NET (Core) Framework, Swift, Angular, Cordova/Capacitor

Not sure if you meet all the requirements? That’s okay! We believe that diverse experiences and perspectives are valuable, and we encourage you to apply even if your background doesn’t perfectly match every listed qualification.

Why Join SureWx?

  • Remote-first work environment with flexible hours.

  • Collaborative and inclusive culture that values innovation and ownership.

  • Opportunity to impact aviation operations on a global scale.
