Our customers depend on SureWx to maintain high operational performance in adverse weather conditions. SureWx’s customers include over a hundred major airlines, airports, and ground service providers worldwide. Our products are found in thousands of cockpits and operations centres. The SureWx service is backed by real-time meteorological data provided by our network of weather determination systems that we operate at airports across North America and Europe.

Our platform and team expertise spans a wide range of technical disciplines: meteorological sensors, embedded systems, networking, cloud, machine-learning algorithms, and mobile applications, all of which must operate at high-availability standards. We are a small team making an enormous impact on global aviation. At SureWx, you will do highly impactful work and help realize our vision of a world brought closer by resilient, efficient, and sustainable aviation.

We are a fully remote team with a startup mindset. We value diverse perspectives, curiosity, and people who take ownership of their work and thrive in an agile environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Development Team Lead who is currently a technical or team leader and is eager to grow into a broader management role in future. This is a hybrid position that blends hands-on technical contributions with leadership development. You will guide and mentor a small team of software developers and testers while also contributing directly to our front end, back end, and mobile app codebases. You’ll work closely with the VP of Technology and Head of Product to plan and scope development work, ensure high-quality code standards, and establish best practices across the development and testing team.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about mentoring others, improving team processes, and gradually expanding their leadership responsibilities in a supportive and growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of software developers and testers, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance engineering culture.

  • Collaborate with the VP of Technology and Head of Product to plan, prioritize, and deliver work aligned with our business goals.

  • Define and implement development workflows and processes that support scalability, quality, documentation, and team productivity.

  • Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and promote best practices in software design, testing, and deployment.

  • Support the professional development of team members through coaching, feedback, and career growth planning.

  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration between the Field Systems, Software Systems, and Customer Operations teams.

  • Identify technical risks early and implement proactive mitigation strategies.

  • Drive continuous improvement across our tools, tech stack, and development lifecycle.

  • Contribute to major product features and system architecture while writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership or team lead role, with a desire to take on broader management responsibilities as our team grows in the coming years.

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with modern front and back end programming languages and frameworks, in a microservices environment.

  • Experience establishing development and quality processes, coding standards, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, databases, and system design.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, planning, and team-based development workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example—writing production-level code while also guiding and mentoring a team.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across remote teams and with non-technical stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.

  • Experience in aviation, weather technology, or related industries is a plus but not required.

  • Preference for candidates who can work around Eastern Time Zone hours to facilitate collaboration with colleagues spanning from Mountain Time to Central European Time.

Desirable Experience

  • Interest in growing into a people management role and developing leadership skills.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience with system observability tools (e.g., logging, monitoring, alerting).

  • Passion for mentoring and fostering growth in their team.

  • Desirable but not mandatory experience in frameworks such as .NET (Core) Framework, Swift, Angular, Cordova/Capacitor

Not sure if you meet all the requirements? That’s okay! We believe that diverse experiences and perspectives are valuable, and we encourage you to apply even if your background doesn’t perfectly match every listed qualification.

Why Join SureWx?

  • Remote-first work environment with flexible hours.

  • Collaborative and inclusive culture that values innovation and ownership.

  • Opportunity to impact aviation operations on a global scale.

  • Agile team with a startup mindset, allowing for direct influence on company direction.

  • Highly engaged team of diverse employees, globally.

  • Annual in person meet ups, location based salaries, benefits and performance bonuses!
